Oris George Book Marks
Distractions INK announces the release of "Along the Back Roads of Yesterday" by Oris George. George characterizes the epitome of life on the back roads as a young boy in the 1940's when life was a little less complicated. His book is available at Barnes and Noble or Amazon, through his website at www.orisgeorge.com where you'll find glimpses of what's between the cover of Oris' Book.

Ava Betz says, "In Oris' world the animals talk, the fish are wily and the mules have more personality than some people. Neighbors can be as grumpy as Elmer, or as eccentric as Anna Tidwell, who wants to save old horses and mules from being slaughtered. Roads are dusty, white tee shirts and jeans are required formal attire for a night on the town."

The local author lives in southeastern Colorado and walks along the Arkansas River talking to the coyotes, provides a home for meadow larks and magpies, and often captures the moment of sunrise AND sunset with his pen in hand. Stories of youth and adventure along the back roads of yesterday abound at the George Mansion. Never a squiggle left unfettered, if Oris has a pen. And yet, for a man so widely traveled and well read, George's foot print on the world remains unequivocally small for the impact he's had on his surroundings.

The late Jim Rogers, a former neighbor, said of George, "Never had a better neighbor!"

Of George, the writer, former neighbor Elmer laughs, "Never knew a kid with so much energy. That boy could get his-self into more trouble'n it'd be worth to buy him out of." (George would never tell you Elmer knew how to write, or talk for that matter.) Elmer didn't really like George, "If'n I ever git ahold of that boy, I'll throttle him to within an inch of his life, and then take the throttle out and throw it away, cuz it'll be weared clear, clean, plumb out!"

Acclaimed author, Earl Staggs, said of the characters in Oris' book, "Oris George has a deft hand for capturing his characters so clearly you'll feel you knew them at some time in your life."

And maybe you do know them. They could be the neighbor down the road whose life desire was to save horses from glue factories, or Henry, his co-hort in crime, or Elmer the pickle faced neighbor who lacked understanding and appreciation of the precocious neighbor kid who would one day make him famous.

This book is available at Barnes and Noble or Amazon online, or you can obtain a copy from Oris George in Lamar, Colorado.
